i use this with my iphone sim from at&t... for it to work properly, you have to edit the at&t connection profile on the connection software and use the following apn settings if you have a data plan with at&t... it works with all other providers from all other countries as well, if you know the correct settings...
at&t apn settings for sims with data:
APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

Bought this USB modem two months ago and have already used it in the US, Hong Kong and the UK. In the US, it works with my AT&T phone SIM by setting the default APN to the script copied below. Note that the script is case sensitive. The setting is the same for my unlocked Google G1 to access e-mail and internet. I did not need to buy a separate ATT data SIM but have to move the SIM between my phone and this modem. In Hong Kong and UK, I used "3" pay-as-you go SIMs for voice and data. The APN settings are already included in the software stored in the modem.

Zoom worked like a charm May 16, 2010
I have an AT&T account. I ordered the Zoom 4596 and as soon as it arrived, I took it to the AT&T store. I also took a second cell phone with me and they converted the sim card on that phone, which is under contract for another few months, into a data plan card. I put the sim card in the zoom modem, connected it to my laptop and followed the instructions that accompanied the Zoom 4596. I was setup and online within 10 minutes. Working like a charm!

The modem was pretty good when I finally got it working.
The bad: The profile that comes with this product is outdated. You need to manully config
your profile to work.
Recommendation: Yes.
Tips: Setting up your profile before you can connect. The profile that comes with this do not work.
